Auckland round of National Chamber Music competition:
- Matilda Hur won the IRMT Woodwind Scholarship Competition
- Two students played in the APO Summer School Orchestra
- All the students (bar one who got a high merit), who took ABRSM exams passed with DISTINCTION
- Former student Noah Rudd was awarded a place at ANAM in Melbourne for further study, was a semifinalist in the NZ Concerto Competition and toured Europe with AYO as their concerto soloist. He also won a number of prizes whilst studying at Auckland University.
- Akari Ouchi (Year 13) attended the Wellington International Oboe Summer School and played for some of the world’s top oboists.:won the 1st Oboe position in the NZ Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra and attended their holiday course in Christchurch in the April holidays; .was accepted on the NZSO Mentoring Scheme for 2017 with lessons from Robert Orr and free tickets to NZSO concerts; won a place in the oboe section of Auckland Youth Orchestra
- NZCT CHAMBER MUSIC CONTEST NATIONAL FINALISTS
The Mahuta Trio: Louise Hwang, oboe,Westlake Girls’ High School; Emma Wu, oboe Westlake Girls’ High School; Francesca Orchard-Hall, cor anglais, St Cuthbert’s College. These three girls are the first oboe trio to reach the National Finals in over fifty years of the contest. Added to this, they won two prizes (plus the Joan Kerr Gold Award): People’s Choice and National Best Performance of a NZ work. - IRMT SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION Congratulations to Francesca Orchard-Hall, winner of the IRMT Alex Stewart Woodwind Scholarship, Akari Ouchi, very highly commended and Matilda Hur, highly commended.
- Former student Thomas Hutchinson reached the finals of the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Germany. The three finalists were awarded joint second prize. Thomas is currently associate principal oboe in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
- The Hozblazin Trio (Holly Butt, Emma Wu and Francesca Orchard-Hall) reached the Northern Regional Finals of the National Chamber Music Contest and were awarded National Bronze awards. They also got a Highly Commended award at the Auckland Finals (top 5 out of 100 groups).
- Herbie Wasson won the IRMT Woodwind Scholarship Competition
2015:
Auckland round of National Chamber Music competition:
- Encore (2 oboes and cor anglais) won a KBB prize playing Beethoven's Trio Op 87
- The North Winds Shall Blow won the prize for the most Engaging group, playing Trio for flute, oboe and piano by M. Dring.
- Alquemie won an Adjudicator's award playing Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano by F. Poulenc.
Alquemie won a place in the National Semi Finals in Wellington on 1 August 2015.
- Twelve students took ABRSM exams, Eleven passed with Distinction (two with high distinctions) and one with Merit.
- Two students were selected to play in the ABRSM High Achiever's Concert for achieving marks of 140+/150. Both were at Grade 8 level.
- Two students were accepted for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Mentoring Programme.
- In the NZCT Chamber Music contest, two groups with my students as members got through to the Auckland Semifinals (16/110) and both groups won KBB prizes. Another group which I had also coached won the Auckland Junior Award..
- One of my students was selected to be first oboe in the NZ Secondary Schools Orchestra
- My students formed the whole of the Auckland Youth Orchestra oboe section. One student won the AYO Howard Memorial Scholarship for excellence in musical performance ($1500). He also won the Conductor's Award of Highly Commended
- The IRMT scholarship (woodwind) of $350 was won by a student who is only in Year 10
